Royal Wolf Trading NZ, Auckland - case study

'Everything is just so much simpler, so much more efficient, and we're saving money!'

Frances and Brent from Royal Wolf Trading are keen to tell others about the massive difference QuickStock has made to their operations.

Tell us a bit about Royal Wolf Trading….

We're all about innovation in transforming aluminium.  We pioneered the aluminium extrusion process in New Zealand, and since then have continually adopted advances in the technology and manufacturing processes. This commitment to leadership, allied to advances in metallurgy, has seen our products continue to enhance our reputation for excellence across every function.  With our culture of advanced thinking and design innovations, when it comes to transforming aluminium, we can create almost anything.

What led you to try QUICKSTOCK?

We had been running a Kanban type system which we thought was operating quite efficiently.  The business has been running flat out busy as usual, and Shane from Euromarc had been encouraging us to have a look at the QuickStock solution - we just hadn't had time to really sit down and see just how much it could benefit our operations.  Looking deeper into the solution we could see what a huge chunk of resources it was going to save.

How did the solution benefit your business?

The QuickStock process feels fully automated - the stocktake resupply happens without needing to make contact with suppliers.  The only time being used managing stock is if new product needs to be ordered, either as a one off purchase, or in addition to QuickStock.  Everything is just so much simpler, so much more efficient, and we're saving money!

Were there any hurdles with getting used to QUICKSTOCK?

A big challenge for any business is taking time out from the day-to-day to sit down and analyse how changing to the QuickStock solution can benefit operations.  We wish we'd done it a lot sooner!

The other thing to get used to is the fact the cabinets have 3 months worth of stock available, but that it is only charged on what is actually used each month.  It's the opposite to the old way of ordering, where product ordered is an immediate business expense.

What would you say to other engineering companies looking for an inventory management solution?

Take the time to look at what a solution like this can offer.  It truly pays dividends in cost savings from so many angles - accounts, production, quality of work, so much less stress.  It takes away the hassle of ongoing ordering of PPE and consumables.
