To get the most out of your powered air respirator (PAPR) and keep it running like a dream, regular cleaning and maintenance are a must. The good news? It’s quick, easy, and totally worth it. Follow this guide to keep your PAPR in top shape and ready for action.

Cleaning

Cleaning your PAPR isn’t just about looking after your gear—it’s about staying safe. Tackle the dirt and grime after each use to avoid waking up to unwanted surprises the next day. Trust us, your future self will thank you.

1. Blower Unit & Battery Pack

  • Give the outer surfaces of the PAPR and battery pack a wipe down with a soft cloth dipped in water and mild, pH-neutral detergent.

  • Keep water out of the unit—no one likes a soggy blower.

  • Skip the solvents and abrasive cleaners.

  • Dry the electrical contacts on the motor/blower and battery pack thoroughly before reassembling.

2. Breathing Tube

Wiping the exterior is NOT ENOUGH! Make sure you clean the outer hose and connection on the breathing tube with the soft cloth dipped in water and detergent solution.

  • Clean the outside of the breathing tube and its connections with your trusty cloth and cleaning solution.

  • Pro tip: Breathing tube covers can make cleanup a breeze.

  • Make sure the tube is bone dry before use or storage. No dunking allowed—if it gets wet, it’s time for a replacement.

3. Filters

  • Pop open the filter cover and inspect all filters and spark screens.

    • Particle and Pre-Filters: These are single-use heroes. Replace them if they’re dirty, wet, or damaged.

    • Spark Screen: Clean with your trusty cleaning solution and dry with care. Replace if it’s seen better days.

    • Important: Compressed air is a no-go. Using it will automatically invalidate the warranty.

4. Face Seal

  • Take the face seal off the helmet and give it a gentle clean with your solution-soaked cloth.

  • If it’s damaged, it’s time to swap it for a new one.

Storage

Good storage habits go a long way in keeping your PAPR in tip-top condition.

Blower Storage

  • Store your blower in a clean, cool, and shaded environment.
  • Keep temperatures between -10°C and 55°C.

Battery Storage

  • Once the battery is fully charged, disconnect it from the charger—overcharging isn’t its friend.
  • Remove the battery from the blower unit if it’ll be sitting idle for a while.
  • Ideal storage: -10°C to 45°C with relative humidity below 85%.

General PAPR Storage

  • Keep your PAPR far away from flammable or explosive atmospheres—it’s not built for those conditions.

  • Store in a clean, dry, and cool spot, preferably with filters.

By keeping your PAPR clean and well-maintained, you’re not just extending its lifespan—you’re investing in your health and safety. Regular maintenance keeps you breathing easy and ready for the next welding challenge.
