As part of Euromarc’s mission to make it easy for you, our customers, to be more competitive, we’re collaborating with Rob Bull from Plexus consulting on a short video series targeting some of the common challenges New Zealand engineering companies are facing today, and some of the strategies around overcoming these challenges.

So in this first video we’ll introduce Rob and give you a quick overview of the topics we’ll be covering.

Introducing Rob

So Rob, tell us about yourself and why you wanted to do some of this video series with us…

Thanks Andy. It was a really easy decision around coming on board with this video series. I’ve worked with small and medium sized businesses around New Zealand for a number of years now just helping them build success and grow sustainably. It was through one of my clients that I saw Euromarc’s QUICKSTOCK system and it really supported the work that I was doing, so that’s why I reached out on LinkedIn and contacted you, and after that discussion understood that our mission of helping small and medium businesses, particularly engineering firms, were really aligned. So when you offered for me to come on board with this video series it was an easy decision.

Challenges We’ll Discuss

So we decided to discuss some of the most common challenges engineering companies are facing, can you give us a brief overview of what they are?

Yeah, there’s always lots of different challenges all engineering firms face but you can boil them all down to 3 or 4 of them.

  • First one, resource constraints. Having the right people, having the right materials and equipment. That’s always a biggie for them.
  • Then the next one is jobs are never out on time. So having that consistent delivery to the customer on time, every time.
  • The next biggest challenge I often hear is managers or the bosses always spending their time firefighting issues.
  • And the last one is really managing quality, particularly when you’re fast growing, or you’re growing and suddenly had big orders. Managing that quality with the growing team and that complexity.
