Tell us about TruckBuild NZ

TruckBuild NZ is a heavy transport fabrication company based about 15 minutes outside of Nelson CBD in Brightwater.

We do everything from new crane builds, new truck builds, full trailer builds, heavy repairs and certification. Anything to do with the heavy vehicle industry.

We service people as far north as Auckland and all the way down to the end of the country as well. We've got a team of nine staff and we're always looking to grow.

We provide a full design service so we can talk to customers, get their ideas and put them into full working drawings. Everything is approved and designed right before we start building to make sure that, you know, we’ve covered all their needs and nothing’s out of bounds, really.

HOW DID YOU MANAGE CONSUMABLE INVENTORY BEFORE QUICKSTOCK?

Before QUICKSTOCK, we just had a small stock of abrasives, cutting discs and that kind of thing on the shelf, which would quite often just get used up. Then they’d run out, and we’d have to order more or run to town if we needed them in a hurry. It was always quite inefficient, and every time we wanted something, it was never there.

We looked into exploring our options for stock management, mainly to help reduce inefficiencies and to reduce the time where guys aren't actually working. Anytime that they're not working on the job is money we're not making and longer before the customer gets their truck back.

A lot of the time, the cost was a lot more than what it needed to be. It was often a matter of what was available in a hurry. We quite often didn't base it on price so much as a necessity, but that often led to spending a lot more than what we had to.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO USE QUICKSTOCK?

We decided to give QUICKSTOCK a go because it seemed like a very efficient and well-priced solution to increasing efficiency and keeping a good amount of stock on hand.

Getting used to QUICKSTOCK was really easy. The guys would just let us know when they needed something that wasn't in there, and we'd phone it through and it would be put in there the next month and we’ve just grown from there.

HOW DOES THE QUICKSTOCK SYSTEM WORK FOR YOU?

The way QUICKSTOCK works here at TruckBuild is we have a large cabinet supplied by Euromarc. They keep it stocked full of everything that we need.

Anything that we want to add, we can, the boys come in and they all have access to it, they take what they need for their job and write it down on a parts register that hangs next to it.

At the end of the month, Euromarc send us a bill for everything we've used, and our accounts team correlate that with our job cards, and it gets billed out.

We use the Bora9 fibre discs real often here, they're one of our favourite products and they’re good value for money. They last a long time and the rubber discs that they come on the backing pads are good quality as well. They don't catch and blow to pieces like some of the other off brand ones I've used in the past.

The Elite products that Euromarc supply really stand out to us. They put a lot of effort into making sure that they go the extra mile and are a great value for money product. I'd recommend them to anyone.

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THE QUICKSTOCK SOLUTION TO OTHER ENGINEERING COMPANIES?

I’d definitely recommend QUICKSTOCK to anybody looking to increase efficiency in their business. It's a great solution to have stock on hand without a massive overhead of costs on our part.

And the staff that come and replenish our cabinet are always really friendly. They turn up, sign in and follow all health and safety protocols. They make sure they communicate with us, and come and check that everything's okay, if we need more or if we need less.

And the best part is they bring chocolate biscuits.
