McCurdy Trucks, New Plymouth - Success Story

‘What we love now with the QUICKSTOCK cabinets here is they’re under lock and key...’

We talk with the team at McCurdy Trucks about how QUICKSTOCK™ integrated into their processes to save them time and money.

Tell us a bit about McCurdy Trucks

McCurdy Trucks was established in 1965 by my grandfather Jim McCurdy. Wayne McCurdy, my father, joined Jim in 1972. I joined the company in about 2000. I’m the manager at McCurdy Trucks, and my daughter, Thea, fourth generation has also just joined the company as well.

We’ve been around Taranaki a fair while. Just working on trucks and in the transport industry. We’ve got a great team here throughout all our departments – engineering, service, parts. Things are going well here for us. - Paul McCurdy, Manager

How did you manage consumable stock inventory before QUICKSTOCK™?

Before we had QUICKSTOCK we were constantly running out of things. I mean it’s the usual case where someone takes the last of something, doesn’t tell you – they mean to, but they don’t, and the first you know you’ve run out is when someone comes to ask for the same item and there’s nothing in the cupboard. So there was a lot of time spent doing multiple orders over a month, so you’re paying for multiple freight charges, and the time people have to spend because they haven’t got the correct tool for the job, or they have to go looking elsewhere for it in the workshop and use somebody else’s. So it saves time and money. - Jenny Putt, Service Admin

How has the QUICKSTOCK™ solution integrated into your workshop processes?

What we love now with the QUICKSTOCK cabinets here is they’re under lock and key, the engineers come up to our service counter, they ask for what they want, and the girls and the guys in the parts department, they go and get it out, it’s all written down, and they only get given out what they need. It’s a great way to keep the processes running, and we know what’s gone. - Russell Morgan, H&S & Training Coordinator

Were there any hurdles with getting used to QUICKSTOCK™?

There were no hurdles getting used to QUICKSTOCK. It was a dream basically. Euromarc came in, they sorted out what we would normally use a lot of and they filled the cupboard with that. As time’s gone by we’ve tweaked it, so we can add to the cupboard. So now I just go to the cupboard and it’s there. I don’t have to worry. - Jenny Putt, Service Admin

How would you say QUICKSTOCK™ has improved your business?

QUICKSTOCK has made it easier for me. It’s easier that I’m not having to constantly monitor stock levels, I’m not having to constantly order stuff, I’m not getting constantly moaned at when things run out. It’s like having your own little supermarket in the office. I can just go and get the things straight off the shelf. - Jenny Putt, Service Admin

Would you recommend the QUICKSTOCK™ solution to other engineering companies?

We would recommend the QUICKSTOCK solution to anybody. It’s worked really well for us. We don’t run out of product anymore. Stocks are there. The guys don’t have to actually get them out of the cabinet. We know when we’ve given them out. The girls [QUICKSTOCK replenishers] turn up at the end of the month and they do their stocktake and tell us what we’ve used. - Russell Morgan, H&S & Training Coordinator

What would you say about how QUICKSTOCK has worked for your business?

Euromarc and the system that they have works really well for me personally because it works really well for my team. It’s a great product, well priced, the support that we have from Shane, especially when he brings in the chocolate biscuits is excellent, and the system that they have with the stock really works for us. - Paul McCurdy, Manager
