While there’s loads of different ways QUICKSTOCK can work within an engineering workshop, for workshops who want more control over the stock usage, the ‘Controlled Shelving’ or ‘Total Control’ models have proved successful for a wide range of workshops.

CONTROLLED SHELVING

The Controlled Shelving model is for those who want more control over the stock without having to guard the cabinet. This is where the QUICKSTOCK cabinets are kept locked, and the person in charge of the cabinet/s will distribute a day, or weeks’ worth of stock onto shelves for the engineers to access.

  • Majority of stock is securely locked away.
  • Store person is not getting interrupted each time someone needs a consumable.
  • Stock is still easily monitored as it is a limited amount available to engineers.

Most engineering companies with more than a few engineers want to have some control over consumable usage. With this model you maintain control while getting the benefits of QUICKSTOCK:

  • There’s always stock available of your regularly used consumables.
  • No requirement to make regular purchase orders.
  • Pack prices regardless of the amount used.

In terms of the amount distributed from the cabinets to shelves – this would be at the discretion of the store person and depend on what jobs are on. Daily shelving allows for more control but requires more effort than weekly.

TOTAL CONTROL

The Total Control model is ideal for workshops who want full control over what is being used in the cabinet. This is where all stock is kept in the cabinets which are kept locked. When engineers need to switch out a consumable they will usually ask the workshop manager/stores person who can then go and retrieve stock from the cabinet.

  • All stock is securely locked away.
  • Stock is closely monitored to ensure minimal waste.

Although there will be more interruptions for the person who has access to the cabinet, this time may be compensated by the reduction in waste from more closely monitoring when stock is being changed out for new items.
